Several years back I was on a tour bus somewhere in the English country side between London and Bath (yes, this is a true story). This was day one of an eight-day tour, and each participant was introducing himself or herself to the group. It was my turn. We were of course to tell our name, where we are from, how we made it on this tour (I was there because my friend won the tickets on the Ricki Lake Show), and then we were asked the question, “If you could have any super power, what would it be?” We could answer honestly or cunningly as we pleased, and I think I chose honesty for the most part. I have no idea which super power I chose, but that is because up until today, I have never really wanted any super powers (except maybe to be able to be any place around the world I want to be instantaneously…that would be a.ma.zing.)
I think I now know what my superpower would be (if I could not have the ability mentioned above). I would like to have the ability to take pictures with my eyes.
There are countless times each day when I see something and I wish I could take a picture of it. However, taking a picture at that moment would probably be really akward. Take today for example. I’m walking down to the bank and I pass a sushi chef obviously on break after the busy lunch hour, enjoying a cigarette and smiling with warm eyes as I pass. snap. I’m coming out of the coffee shop and walking up the garden path to the sidewalk. At the end of the path is a bus stop full of people ready to board. Bundled up against the cold wind, talking, thinking, waiting, the bus is off in the distance. snap. Yesterday I get out of the car and begin to walk toward the door. I stop to take in the beauty of the moment. My home with snow falling gently all around and disappearing as it lands on earth. snap. There are so many more I cannot share with you because my little brain cannot contain them all.
So today if you ask me which super-power I would like, I would answer honestly that I would like the ability to snap a picture without anyone knowing.
